Capsule Bio

Mr. Cathcart has achieved consistently high standards of design, economy and ecology over 35 years of experience in projects running from high-tech factories (New York Photovoltaics, Port Jervis, NY, Alabama Photovoltaics, Birmingham, AL) to artists’ lofts and private residences (in Tribeca, Soho, and Williamsburg, NY, Ulster County NY, and Ontario Canada) to working neighborhoods (Hampton Center, NJ; Long Island City, NY, Garment District of NY), to urban infrastructure and maintenance projects (Stillwell Avenue Terminal, Coney Island, NY and Remsen Yards, Brooklyn, NY). Colin is a principal of Kiss + Cathcart Architects, with numerous public projects including the New Museum of Contemporary Art, Manhattan’s lower east side, the Lee, residence for the homeless, lower east side of Manhattan, and Solar 2, Center for Green Arts Education on Manhattan’s east side). His collaboration with Yoshihara McKee and Alternative + Renewable Construction LLP started after his retirement from teaching at Fordham University where he served on the executive committee of the Urban Studies program, as Associate Director of the Environmental Studies Program, developed a cross-disciplinary Pre-Architecture program. Colin received a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo in 1978 and awarded the AIA Medal upon receiving his Master of Architecture from Columbia University in 1983. He registered in New York State in 1986, #019092, and in 1991 received his NCARB file 43662 to practice nationwide.
